January Always Sucks

For those of you who have struggled through this month I salute you! Only seven more days of this hell. January is always the worst month of the year. Most people are experiencing the financial hangover of the holidays, the taking down of decorations, thinking it may be a year before seeing family again. Then you have the failed New Year's resolutions, the optimism of a "new year new me" that didn't glean the results you were expecting. Dry January becomes wet. The deep freeze of our nation sets in and chills through the bone.

I was on a Zoom meeting with friends last night and most were struggling through this month. One had lost a father, another was experiencing self-harm ideation, and another had been laid off from her job in tech. These are serious, heavy heart matters. We talked about it. We meditated on it. And we came to the conclusion that this month is always historically terrible and we all needed to just hang on for the next week.

My advice to you is to do whatever you have to do to get though these next seven days. You've gotten through three of the worst weeks of the year. Bitch, you're doing a good job! Treat yourself! If you're experiencing debt from the holidays, and want to buy something for yourself, do it (art supplies!). If you've flunked the "new year new me" test, who cares? Eat some ice cream. If you want to get a pedicure and feel foolish because you are wearing winter boots and no one can see your toes go get your feet sorted out. And lastly if you are feeling like crap reach out to a friend. Chances are they are feeling it too.

Heavy winter heart lifting. Many hands make the load light. Don't do it alone.
